Writing in English at University: An introduction

1.What do we mean by saying that all writing is communicative?

When we are writing a article,actually ,we are talking to our readers .We write down what we think just like we were talking to them face-to-face .

We want them could understand us or learning something from our words .It's communicative so there is a sender who transmits the message to a receiver.

2.In the video, we talk about academic writing being objective. What does that mean?

It means that you should avoid biased language and generalizations andthat you shouldn't bring in your personal pre-conceptions or opinions.

3.What are the three main stages of the writing process?

(1)Before you start to write, you need to define your topic,decide how to approach it and of course collect material for your project.This is the pre-writing or invention stage.

(2)produce a first draft based on yourblueprint plan.

(3)rewriting.

4.Why is it a good idea to step away from your text for a day or two and then resume work?

this will help you create a distancewhich will make it much easier for you to review your own text.

5.What is the difference between a dictionary and an encyclopedia?

A dictionary is collection of words in one or more specific languages ,often listed alphabetically ,with usage of information,definitions,definitions ,etymologies ,phonetics,pronunciations ,translation, and other information .
An encyclopedia or encyclopedia is a type pf reference work or compendium holding a comprehensive summary of information from either all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge .

Childhood:

Electricity:

E:Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence of electric charge. Although initially considered a phenomenon separate from magnetism, since the development of Maxwell's equations, both are recognized as part of a single phenomenon: electromagnetism.

As what have been shown above ,we can find that dictionary explain a word in a way which is popular and easy to understand.Instead ,encyclopedia explain a thing in a more aprofessionaltone and more Formal words .
