A ski safety binding has a sole plate which swivels parallel to the surface of the ski, a pair of sole holders (30) each of which swivels about an axis perpendicular to the sole plate between a restrained position and a release position for a ski boot, and a release device for the sole holder, each of which has a guide (32) articulated to the sole plate and a release part (37) mounted mobile on the sole plate. In the restrained position, the guides abut on an abutment element (35), which is fastened to the plate, at an angle such that they are displaced according to the inclined plane principle toward the release part (37). The component of the supporting force exerted on the abutment element (35) is considerably greater than the component exerted on the release part (37), so that when the sole plate swivels sideways and the release part (37) strikes against a stop wall (28') fastened to the ski, only the slight frictional force between the release part and the guides has to be overcome. As a result, the creation of a torque peak in the force/torque curve of the ski binding during the release operation is prevented.
